We have all had
dreams as children. As children, we have exhibited certain natural talents and
skills that can contribute to our dreams. There are two types of dreamers; those who talk
about them and those who make them happen. For those whose dream is entering the
entertainment business, there is one important thing to consider – your first
impression!
In order to make your dream come true you must have a strong
first impression.
Your first
impression can be the “golden ticket” to success or the "passport" to rejection. A memorable first impression will allow for
your resume’, artwork, audition, demo or any other tangible piece of work to stand
apart from others. It becomes what people identify you with.
I have listed a couple of pointers to remember about first impressions.
I have listed a couple of pointers to remember about first impressions.
1. Talent, image and wit are very important, but your first impressions
carry the largest weight!
- Learn to master the art of first impressions. It has often been said to “never judge a book by its cover” However, as stated by Y. Smith, “it’s the cover that stimulates a viewer’s heart, mind and soul to open the book.”
- Allow the exciting memories from childhood ignite a positive, memorable first impression that lasts forever.
2. Passion is the fuel that ignites your fire.
- The entertainment industry is not for the weak at heart. In order to survive, one must have—entrepreneurial drive, humility and the courage it takes to “put yourself out there”.
- The entrepreneurial drive gives the ability to continuously press towards success; no matter the cost, while humility opens more doors. Putting yourself out there gives the opportunity to be seen or heard under any circumstances.
Ingenuity,
passion and entrepreneurial drive all attribute to lasting first
impressions. An individual with these
qualities will leave a lasting imprint with everyone they meet and everywhere they go.
