Developing Your Brand

When one hears…

“Im Loving It”...
“Have It Your Way”...
“Taste The Rainbow”...
“Redbull Gives You Wings”...
“Like a Rock”...
“Eat Fresh” ...

...instantly McDonald's, Burger King, Skittles, Red bull, Chevrolet, and Subway come to mind.  The interesting thing about these slogans is they represent each brand successfully!

The brand.... it what sets them apart!
Your Brand will be what sets YOU apart!

What is Branding? Simply defined, branding is the process of giving your product or service a unique identity or brand that people will be able to recognize and identify as yours.  In the entertainment business, it is very important to set precedence to your own brand.  If you do not take creative control in this process, it will be set for you.

For instance, when one hears "Just Do It"-- Nike comes to mind.  As a matter of fact, the Nike swoosh alone speaks to great athletic wear; whether shoes, clothes or equipment. On the other hand, when you hear "King of Pop" or see a silver embellished glove we instantly think -- Michael Jackson.  The mere mention of these phrases or sight of these symbols triggers either of the brands.  This is a clear example of successful branding.

How to Begin

A couple of things should be taken into consideration when creating your brand.   One must know themselves, know their people and develop their niche.
  • Get to know who you are; this is where your character and integrity come into play.
  • Know the company you keep; the people who are on your team define who you are.
  • Determine who it is you want to be known for; what do you do well?
Remember, your brand will likely follow you for the course of your career. It is worth the effort it takes to set the course on the right track!

Points to remember when creating your brand:

  1. Gain expertise - in what services or goods you offer
  2. Become Irreplaceable - be the preferred choice
  3. Compelling - create memorable experiences
  4. Set apart - your services and brand should set you above the rest
  5. Strong relationships - build trust and recognition
  6. Easy to find - be sure your brand is easy to remember
