Breaking into the Entertainment Industry…

Breaking into the Entertainment Industry…

When an aspiring entrepreneur is eager for success, they begin to speak to other entrepreneurs, ask questions and find their niche.  An aspiring business owner works toward their Bachelors and Masters degrees in Business Administration. An aspiring educator begins to volunteer as a tutor while studying their subject of expertise. What exactly should one do to enter the entertainment business?

I’m glad you asked!

Whether you are an actor, actress, dancer, musician, singer, writer, DJ, etc., the following information will be helpful to you.

For starters, get ready to go to work! Only a small percentage has made it in this industry with little effort—those of which were in the right place, at the right time, and knowing the right people. Relationships are vital; character and integrity are just as important as essential.  Raw talent is significant—at times that extra something or a strong first impression will create a lasting memory. Possessing the aforementioned qualities creates a good foundation for an industry career.

A degree you say?
Definitely!! A degree coupled with passion can place you at the top of any list.1 Whether your degree is in journalism, business, fine arts, creative writing, broadcasting, or marketing; the entertainment industry has something for you.  It is up to you to decide which avenue you wish to pursue and what type of brand you want to portray. Creating your brand early is very important, for this is who you will become and most importantly who you will be to those in need of your talent and/or services.

Lastly, there are seven fundamentals to consider when breaking into the Entertainment Industry…
1.     Plan – write down your vision and goals
2.     Research – gather your resources: industry magazines, web-sites, publications
3.     Branding – create your personal brand via resumes, portfolios, social media, etc.
4.     Network – join industry organizations and associations, attend industry events.
5.     PLN – create personal learning network to stay abreast of industry news
6.     Passion – never loose your drive, give it your all.
7.     Never give up!
